Traditional hormone therapy uses synthetic hormones, which are made in a lab and are not the same in chemical structure as the hormones created in the body. Because of this synthetic hormones are not utilized as effectively by the body, this altered metabolism, and "one size fits all" doses set by the manufacturer, can lead to unfortunate side effects. Metabolism of the additives in the synthetic hormones can also contribute to unwanted side effects. Synthetic hormones have been used for many years because they do relieve symptoms, but the current scientific literature has demonstrated patient harm.

Bioidentical hormones' chemical structure matches that of the hormones produced in the human body. Because of this, they are more effectively metabolized by the body and fewer side effects occur. More effective metabolism and no additives all decrease the incidence of side effects. BHRT is compounded, therefore the dose and route of administration can be tailored to the patient's individualized needs. Hormones that are made just for you! An increasing body of research studies on bioidentical hormones are showing promising results, including protective and preventive health effects.

In the early 2000’s there was a large hormone replacement trial using synthetic hormone replacement therapy(HRT) that put women at an increased risk of breast cancer, heart disease and stroke. Many people still cite this literature today as a reason to not use HRT. After review, it was determined that the methods and population chosen for this study were flawed. Much research is coming out now that is showing a benefit of HRT when done early in menopause and when done properly.

During your appointment you and your provider will discuss the risks and benefits of HRT within your specific circumstance, as well as whether this treatment is right for you.
Our providers utilize a blend of public and private lab testing. Often we start with labs that are covered by Alberta Health and are therefore free to residents with an Alberta health care number. If private labs are indicated, your provider will speak with you about the cost and how to receive your lab kits.
It depends on the type of medications ordered. If your provider thinks that a compounded medication will be best for you, they will recommend having your prescription filled by a compounder directly. This allows you to speak to a pharmacist that is an expert on this type of medication. Sometimes if a compounder is used, the medications may need to be shipped to you. If you are using a compounder, please speak with your pharmacist directly about shipping and coverage costs.

Our practice is completely virtual at this time. So you can get the process started by emailing info@infinityhormonehealth.ca with your full name, birthdate, and gender. Thereafter, our admin assistant will send you consent and an online intake form from a secure platform called Ocean.

Once your intake forms have been reviewed you will receive a lab requisition over a secure messaging platform called Medeo with collection instructions. Print this lab requisition off and take it to the lab nearest you.

Lab results take 5-7 days to receive. Once we have reviewed your lab results we will email you a booking link to book your appointment.

Once you receive the booking link, you can choose a video or telephone appointment.

If you choose a telephone appointment, please note that your provider will contact you from a “No caller ID” number at the time of your appointment. If the call is not answered, your provider will call again in 5 min after the appointment start time.

A Nurse Practitioner is a nurse with additional graduate education of which allow the nurse additional scope of practice. An NP is an independent provider that can perform physical exams, take a health history, diagnose, order lab testing, order diagnostic imaging, send specialty referrals, and prescribe medications.

Only Alberta residents are able to utilize our service at this time due to our Nurse Practitioners(NP) being only licensed in Alberta.

Unfortunately, the Alberta government has yet to come up with a funding model for Nurse Practitioners. Due to this, our providers charge a fee for consultation services.

Some private insurance companies may cover the services under a health spending account. It is recommended to speak with your insurance regarding your personal coverage. Please note, NPs are not the same as Naturopathic Doctors(ND), therefore coverage for ND services is not applicable. Also, note the services of a Nurse Practitioner are federally tax deductible.
